Japan has a week holidays, called as “Golden Week(GW)" in early May. I always go to my parents home in Yaizu city in GW. This year I carried my bike for the first time and did a round trip to Miho coast on a sunny day. After passing the mountain, at pic. number 1, the beautiful Mt. Fuji can be seen all the time. The west wind was so strong and the coast side road was very flat that I could reach Miho Matsubara in 1.2hrs.

The “Hagoromo" pine tree has a famous fairy tale of angel’s feathered robe(pic.3) . Within 100m toward the coast from the pine tree, you will be the point of spectacular view of one of the Japanese 3 major Pine trees, Miho- Matsubara, Miho coast and Mt.Fuji (pic.4 & 5).

Shimizu city which is well known as No.1 Tuna landing port city is 6km away from Miho. I sometimes drop in the fish market(pic.6~7) to buy fresh fishes before going back to my home in Chiba prefecture. I recommend you to buy or eat red flesh fishes like tuna here as well as inshore fishes like sea bream. Actually the major part of tuna sold in Tokyo area fish market were carried from this port. I went there in this trip but was too early for lunch, so I changed my plan to eat something around strawberry field area.

When coming to Kunou coast area(pic.8-11 area) , many plastic hothouses (pic.11) which cultivate strawberry can be seen. Shizuoka city is famous for strawberry cultivation using slope of Kuno mountain and its warm climate. In some hothouses you can enjoy strawberry picking(pic.8) from Dec to May. I ate strawberry gelato(pic.10) near Kuno Toshogu shrine. The shrine enshrines Lord Ieyasu Tokugawa who founded 260-year-long Edo era and died in Shizuoka city. In order to reach the shrine, you should go up many stairs as you can see in pic.9.

　The distance was only 70km round trip but the west wind was so strong that it was very hard to go in a head wind on the coast road. At the final approach to Yaizu city, there is a short hill climbing(pic.12) on a steep cliff called “Ookuzure"(big collapse). The scene from the top(pic.13) was very beautiful but already very tired because of wind and the slope.

BTW, there is a fishing port, “Mochimune port" just before the hill climbing and I often buy raw ”Shirasu(raw whitebait)" in its season(from May to Sep) there. We can’t eat good raw Shirasu in Tokyo since it rots easily but in local prefecture with a big sea, we can enjoy raw Shirasu. It has been my favorite since my childhood.
