North Kanto area, especially Ibaraki prefecture is known as good buckwheat(Soba) producing district. The pictures(pic.1&2) are at famous soba restaurant “Takeyabu“, pic3 is “Musoan" soba, both are in Moriya city. It was February when we often gather in this city to enjoy good fragrance of soba because this area is relatively near our residences and was too cold to go far away. And above all else, we can’t enjoy such good soba so easily in Tokyo area. This is our privilege to reach good soba restaurants so often.
Moriya is around 50km from central Tokyo. Short cut way is using Route-6 and turning left after crossing Tone river. But Route-6 is very busy road, so if you want to enjoy cycling, I recommend you to use Edo river cycling road toward north and turn right after reaching Noda-city to cross Tone river. Then turn right to reach Moriya area. It’ll be 60km riding from Tokyo.
Other than “Takeyabu", “Musoan", you can find many good Soba restaurants around this area. Btw, Soba itself is a vegetarian cuisine but sometimes its soup to dip Soba in use fish or chicken as soup stock. Pls check with cook.
