My old friend had asked me to ride somewhere on 3 days holiday in Feb. Most area of Japan have risks of snowing or too cold weather in this season and only South Bo-so peninsula or south Izu peninsula might be better for riding. We chose South Bo-so this time.

Reaching Tateyama around 9:00AM, we rode toward Nojimasaki, the southernmost of Bo-so peninsula. There lies a small hill btw Tateyama and Nojimasaki but not so severe. Bicycles also can go inside the lighthouse park, so we could take pictures at the southernmost of Nojimasaki(pic1,2). The weather was so nice that we could see Izu Ohshima which can’t be seen so often.

3.Katsuura “Nakamura" 's Sashimi
4.Beryx splendens boiled with sweetened soy sauce

Usually in this season, the west wind blows strongly but it was the east wind on that day. So we struggled to go further at 30km point. The road itself was wide and easy for riding (pls refer to C-4 article to see the road). So we met many cyclers on our way. We ate a local whale cuisine at Wadaura city(restaurant Piman) since this area traditionally does whale fishing and fresh one is available there.

After 60km, there appeared some slopes and tunnels which made my friend annoyed. But once the sea appeared on the right hand side, the goal, Katsuura city was almost in front of us. It was still around 3:00PM, so we booked a nice Japanese restaurant “Nakamura" and checked in our hotel.

Nakamura is an expensive restaurant but their Sashimi was so fresh which we can’t easily eat in Tokyo. Katsuura city is very famous for bonito fishing but February is not the season. Instead those various fishes(pic.3) landed on the morning were served. Especially Beryx splendens boiled with sweetened soy sauce which is popular cuisine in Japan was very delicious. Of course I drank various Japanese sake.

This trip’s purpose was just enjoy meal with my friend through cycling, we stayed one night at Katsuura and I went back home in next morning. Before getting on the train, we dropped in “Asaichi", a morning market held near the fishing port. There we found famous Katsuura Tantanmen(spicy Ramen) restaurant, Ishii(pic.5). You can see many pictures on the window of this shop, which means many famous persons had visited there. Katsuura’s Tantanmen whose taste was good but not so special for me became popular recently. Much chili oil is used, so pls be careful about your bowel.
