Izu peninsula, coming from south toward Japan archipelago, colliding to it and making Mt.Fuji shapes very the intricate terrain. Of course there must be many up-downs which made me hesitant to ride since it must take a few days to complete cycling. But I’ve cycled many places in Kanto area, now the time to try cycling here.

Getting on the first train from my home town at 4:40AM, I reached Odawara station at 7:20AM. Soon I came to Route-135(pic.1) which is the only wide road to south of Izu peninsula. I notice blue marks on the road which guide cyclists as well as call attention to drivers(pic.1). So I felt safe all the way even though many big cars often passed by in narrow points.

3.Atami city & port

As I imagined in advance, soon up-hill started(pic.2) but it was not so steep. Without much toughness, I reached Atami city in 1.2hr(pic.3). Atami is a famous resort city for Tokyo area people thanks to its hot spring and seafoods from old era.

Again there was up-hills and gradually the coast became cliff shape(pic.4,5). Finally around the point .6(pic.6), cycling route was separated from Route-135 and the road became not much traffic. The atmosphere seemed like that of Ohshima island which located opposite shore(ref, D-8 article).

10.Kadowaki suspension bridge
14.Ocean & Ohshima island view from Jogasaki cape

After 60km cycling with many up and downs, I finally reached Jogasaki coast(pic.8~14). This spot is very famous for a suspension bridge over the steep cliff cove. The sky became clear when I reached there and fortunately I could see Oshima island far away(pic.14).

Now the time was 11:00AM. I wanted to reach my home around 4:00PM, which meant catching 12:30PM train from Izu-Kogen station, so I resumed final 5km cycling with lunch. I found a nice local cuisine restaurant, “Matsu" on my way. It serves only fish dishes which come from local fishing port. I ordered boiling “Isaki(grunt)" lunch set at \1800-.(pic.16). Since the sea in this area is rough sea, only natural products can be landed. So its meat was tight with much flavor. Very yummy!

17.At Izu-Kogen station, hot spring for foot

The Izu-Kogen station had a hot spring for foot (pic.17) outside and souvenir shops, local food restaurants inside because it’s also a good resort area. And I found rental cycling shop, too.
